When you first become a member of the Los Santos Police Department will you be directly assigned into the Patrol & Opeartion Bureau and serve under either Patrol Divisions AM watch or PM watch. Depending on the shift you will take. To become a member of the other units or divisions will you need to send in an internal application to the CO(Commanding officer) of the division or unit.

LSPD Internal Affairs Division

The Internal Affairs Division section of the LSPD is a internal department that investigates suspected corrupt acts by employeed peace keepers. As police officers are employed to serve the public, most of the misconduct is carried out where there's plenty of witnesses and cameras. Therefor we trust, and rely on you as a fellow citizen to report any witnessed misconduct done by police officers. For the complaint to be justified we require as much information and evidence as possible. Badge numbers, names, camera footage and so on are valued highly, and including them in your report will maximize the effect of the outcome of your report. Some reports may even land you an award, depending on the seriousness of the crime and the outcome.

Once you've filed a complaint, a casefile is created and assigned to an appropriate agent. A deadline is usually set to make sure that the misconduct gets dealt with in reasonable time. To assure that all reports are handled as impartially as possible and that the IA is held to a high standard, our Agents are hand-picked by the Director of the IA along with the Chief of Police.

Patrol & Operation Bureau

The Patrol & Operation bureau is a very significant bureau inside the Los Santos Police Department. This bureau is noticed both internal and external in the police department. The Patrol & Operation bureau is the visual part of the police department. The patrol division is also responsible for spreading out the activity over the several time shifts. The time shifts are dayshift and nightshift, also called AM watch and PM watch. Apart from those there's also a division for detectives and a division for LSPD command, as officers in those divisions are not placed in any of the time shifts due to their variety of work.

The AM watch and PM watch all have their own commanding officer(CO). A CO is either a SLO or a sergeant. The CO's are to evaluate both the activity and performance of all officers in their division and send in a weekly evaluation report to the Director of the Patrol & Operation bureau as well as the Lieutenant in charge of the Patrol division. This helps the LSPD command team to make the right decisions about the promotions of officers to ensure that only the best officers are given a higher and more responsible position in the police department.

A second division under the patrol & operation bureau is the metropolitan division also known as the metro division. This division has a number of four units below the air support unit, strike team and special weapon and tactics. These units mostly operate under special operations in the field and are only called in when the regular patrol units can not handle the situation. The air support unit is also used to assist ground units in regular patrol and is use in a day-to-day basis. They also assist in search and rescue mission state wide.

Apart from the divisions in the Patrol & Operation bureau the Patrol & Operation bureau is also in charge of the various internal requests as division transfers, requests of warrants and probationary officer evaluation/promotion. This is done by both the director of the Patrol & Operation bureau and the lieutenant of the Patrol Division.
